The use of handcuffs is a popular, fun & harmless way to enhance your sex life. Steel Handcuffs

When using handcuffs you should be aware that the novelty steel handcuffs sold on most sites are for use only really as a joke. They were originally designed for use by the police in order to restrain a prisoner temporarily. For this reason they were designed to be uncomfortable and even painful if they are tampered with. This means that if you try to lead someone by pulling the handcuffs or if you were to apply pressure to the handcuffs by putting body weight onto the handcuffs then they would certainly become painful.

There is also the additional problem of damage which can occur to nerves due to the handcuffs steel edging. The steel handcuffs can also cut of circulation or brake the skin. Steel handcuffs can also be difficult to remove in some circumstances (especially if using handcuffs at the same time as using lubricants) due to the handcuffs small parts and keys. It is a popular trait from Hollywood films to put the handcuffs on a prisoner by striking the wrist with the steel handcuffs and letting them snap closed. This too should be avoided as it can be painfull and damaging to nerves etc.

Leather Hand cuffs / wrist cuffs

Safe words when using handcuffs

Another essential point is that while using handcuffs a safe word should be agreed in order to let the dom know that the sub is finding it too intense. Baring in mind that many practisioners very much enjoy the use of words like "stop" or "please don't" you should choose a word not usually associated with the situation. A popular word is RED to stop or Yellow to slow down.

If you are using a gag as well as handcuffs then a hand signal can be used.
