How to Wear Corsets
It is possible to lace a corset yourself - although to achieve the four inch reduction it is recommended that you have some assistance. Many enjoy the sensation of being tightly laced in, hence why the popularity of corset are still going strong after all these years.
It is extremely important to remember that wearing a corset can be very tiring. We do not suggest donning a corset for the first time with the intent of wearing it all day. If there is an occasion on the horizon for which you will wish to wear your corset all day, it would be wise to "train" yourself to wear it by starting with a short period of time and adding to the length of wear until you are comfortable in your corset for a full day.
It is personal preference whether you choose to lace the corset full closed or to show a gap at the back. Some choose to show some skin and the intricate lacing. Because of the many adverse health effects, we strongly recommend against the use of corsets for body modification. However, if you must attempt tight lacing, please consult the available literature on doing so in comparative safety.
After some time the corset will start to mould itself around your shape. When this happens it is then possible to tighten the corset 6 inches smaller than the natural size of your waist.
With the correct care, corsets can last for years.
How to Put On Corsets
Loosen all the laces down the back of the corset and wrap the corset around you closing the front busk clasps.
Each corset has bi-directional lacing all the way down the back. At the waist in between each end of lacing are two long tread loops.
First start pulling the loops, tightening from the bust down to waist and then hips to waist. You eventually will start to feel a hugging feeling as the boning begins to contract.
Corset Sizing
When choosing your first corset you must order it 2 - 4 inches smaller than your waist size. This will allow the corset to be worn semi closed to show the back and laces whilst still giving a 2 inch waist reduction. If you choose to full close the laces this will provide a 4 inch decrease.
But if you still wish to have the 4inch reduction AND have the corset semi closed then you must remember to order the corset 6 inches small.
- 18" corset fits natural waist size 22"
- 22" corset fits natural waist size 26"
- 26" corset fits natural waist size 30"
- 30" corset fits natural waist size 34"
- 34" corset fits natural waist size 36"
No bra will be required when wearing a corset as once laced they push the breast up and out giving a great cleavage.
Corset Washing Instructions
- Hand wash with mild soap in cold water.
- Blot dry by rolling in a towel and squeezing out as much water as possible.
- Hang in a well-ventilated area (i.e. airing cupboard or in front of a fan) to dry.
- Do not dry-clean.
- Store loosely rolled or gently folded in an area large enough to accommodate corset without bending.
- Do not store corset after washing until thoroughly dry.
Corset Training
While we tend to think about corseting very tightly straight away and simply put up with the pain, in practice, only the masochistic might try this. It wouldn't do much for your health either. It takes time for your ribs to change shape and your internal organs to adjust. So if you're serious about achieving a true hour glass figure, here's the basic advice that you need.
- Start off by reducing your waist by only 2-3" If it hurts, it's too tight. Wear a well made corset with a smooth lining. Ideally, your first corset should close at about 4" smaller than your original natural waist; otherwise the laces dig in to your back.
- Wear something soft between the corset and your skin. This allows you to wriggle your flesh into a more comfortable position, avoiding pinches in your skin and smoothes out the bones and ridges in the corset. Cotton based corset liners are best. They allow your skin to breath. Silk is good too.
- Keep the corset on day and night, only taking it off to bathe or when you absolutely have to. Try not to use soap or anything else that will dry the skin. Dab the skin dry carefully, don't rub it roughly. Put your corset back on when dry. Only by wearing it lots, with your body adjust. What used to be tight, will feel totally normal after a while.
- Once the corset has become totally comfortable, reduce your waist by half an inch. This will take about 2 weeks at first, but as the corset becomes tighter, the time it takes to lose each half inch becomes increasingly longer.
- Keep your body and the corset clean. If you can afford it, buy two corsets so that you can wear one while the other is in the wash. If you can't do that, at least use two liners and wash them often. Avoid the use of too much detergent or conditioner that might annoy your skin.
- There is some debate about moisturiser. Some people say use lots, as i did in the start, others say use none and let your skin harden up. Since stopping moisturising, my skin has become a little rough, but it is sore less frequently and doesn't itch so often. Surgical spirit dabbed or spayed on after bathing hardens the skin up too.
- Once the laces on your original corset have closed, get one 2" smaller than the first, but make sure you get a good quality one. Made to measure is best, and don't always cost that much more than standard ones. It's well worth it; a comfortable corset will encourage you to wear it more and will help you train down faster.
- A corset with a 'back protector', a stiff panel which fits under the laces, adds to the comfort. The protector reduces the deep grove of flesh which can form down your spine, and stops the laces digging in.
- Keep fit by eating well and by taking plenty of gentle exercise, such as walking. If anything hurts, ease off. Keep an eye on your blood pressure. Wearing a corset should NEVER leave you breathless or dizzy. (Even if you like the fantasy, it's NOT good for you.) As your corset gets really tight, you will have to eat smaller meals, but more of them. Grazing throughout the day works well. Eating a big meal or laying down soon after eating can make you feel sick.
- With patience and dedication, you should be able to reduce your waist by 8, or if you are a little bigger to start with, may be 10" after few years. In time, you could even go further, but it gets very slow after this point. Don't think it's easy, it's a labour of love. Slowly and gently is the key.
- Sooner or later, you'll get some pressure sores. Look after them, or they can turn nasty. Sterile dressing pads are recommended and if they won't heal, back off your lacing or see a doctor. Remember, it is not worth putting your health at risk just for that extra inch. Don't break your body, you can't get a new one.
- There is a point where you just won't be able to go beyond. It depends on all sorts of factors, but most people (if you are healthy) can achieve an impressive reduction.
